You may elect to do the blog assignment instead of, not in addition to, this assignment.
Description
Computing is a huge field. In this assignment, you are to explore computing as a field and learn something beyond basic programming. Find a single topic to explore and write a 4-5 page paper (11pt font, single space, 1" margins). The paper should inform a reader about the topic and ideas and describe in depth the relationship to computer science. Pictures may be included, but the text itself should about to at least 4 pages of written words. Example topics might include:
- Advanced programming concepts
- Algorithms
- Robotics
- Graphics
- Bioinformatics
- Security
- And much much more...
Details
- Provide at minimum the following sections in your essay. Use bold
subheadings to provide clearly demarcated sections.
- Description of topic. Define any jargon and terms here.
- Relation to Computer Science. Clearly explain the topic's relation to Computer Science. For example, if you want to discuss the Large Hadron Collider, predominantly a product of Physics research, you need to discuss how Computing is related to the topic at hand.
- References. List references as the last section of the essay. Use numbers to denote references for easy citations in the entry itself.
- You are encourages to have images in the essay.
- If you are unsure of a topic, references, or anything please ask the instructor.
Grading
- The essay will count towards 10% of your final grade.

Points
- ~90% on content. Breakdown - 2 points for topic choice (actually relating to computing), 2 points for required sections of discussion, 1 point for lacking clarity.
- ~10% for bibliography.
- Concerning plagiarism. Use proper quoting procedures and citation practices. If you steal someones words and do not cite them properly, I will defer grade assignment and submit a report to the Honor's Council for proper consequences.
