Culture Assignment: Famous Computer Scientist

Assignment
Many researchers have made a great impact in our field. In this assignment, please research an important figure in computer science, explaining their life and their impact in computer science. The computer scientist you choose must have made an impact in algorithms, theory, or data structures. Please explain their impact thoroughly enough for a reader to understand at a high level. A list of famous computer scientists (one's who got Turing Awards) can be found here.
Required Format
Please use the following format for your culture assignment.
- Papers should be no shorter than one full page and no longer than three full pages. Papers should use single spacing (not double spacing!). Use 12pt Times New Roman font or something of reasonably similar size (e.g., Calibri 11pt).
- Margins should be 1" on all sides.
- All title and author information should be placed on a custom cover page (i.e., this is not included in the length). Information should be centered on the cover page.
- Use technical writing style, i.e., concise and to-the-point sentences, bulleted lists, etc are encouraged to be used.
- For citations please use APA style (or plain in BibTex). Be sure to reference citations in text. Reference list does not count in paper content length.
- For an extra challenge: Use LaTex typesetting for your papers.
Grading Rubric
Culture assignments will generally be graded based upon the following:
- Maximum points for a culture assignment will be 4.
- One point is earned for following appropriate format.
- One point is earned for proper English (i.e., grammar and spelling). Note if there are a few (~2) grammar mistakes a half of a point will be earned. If there are too many grammar issues, no points will be earned.
- Two points can be earned for content. A well thought out essay will earn full credit, while a poorly constructed essay will earn one or no points.
All assignments must be turned in with a signed coverpage. If no coverpage is provided, the assignment will not be graded. Additionally, a soft copy will be turned into eCampus due the midnight of the due date.
