Culture Assignment: Data Structure
Due Date: Dec. 9th (before class)
Assignment
So far this semester we have learned about a great number of important data structures and algorithms, however, there are many more that we have not touched yet. This will be a common theme in your computer science education that courses teach you the basics, but it is your responsibility to put in the extra effort to find a solution or algorithm which fits your needs. Please find an interesting data structure or algorithm (which we have not covered in CSCE 221) and write an essay explaining what it is used for and how it works. If it is a data structure please include the common operations of the data structure.
Required Format
Please use the following format for your culture assignment.
- Papers should be no shorter than one full page and no longer than three full pages. Papers should use single spacing (not double spacing!). Use 12pt Times New Roman font or something of reasonably similar size (e.g., Calibri 11pt).
- Margins should be 1" on all sides.
- All title and author information should be placed on a custom cover page (i.e., this is not included in the length). Information should be centered on the cover page.
- Use technical writing style, i.e., concise and to-the-point sentences, bulleted lists, etc are encouraged to be used.
- For citations please use APA style (or plain in BibTex). Be sure to reference citations in text. Reference list does not count in paper content length.
- For an extra challenge: Use LaTex typesetting for your papers.
Grading Rubric
Culture assignments will generally be graded based upon the following:
- Maximum points for a culture assignment will be 4.
- One point is earned for following appropriate format.
- One point is earned for proper English (i.e., grammar and spelling). Note if there are a few (~2) grammar mistakes a half of a point will be earned. If there are too many grammar issues, no points will be earned.
- Two points can be earned for content. A well thought out essay will earn full credit, while a poorly constructed essay will earn one or no points.
All assignments must be turned in with a signed coverpage. If no coverpage is provided, the assignment will not be graded. Additionally, a soft copy will be turned into eCampus due the midnight of the due date.
If there are any discrepencies in grades please see Jory Denny during his office hours (not the TA or Grader).
