URCSC Computer Programming Contest

-RULES-

Eligibility:
The Contest is open to all CS150, CS221 and CS222 students. Teams may consist of no more than two (2) people. CS150 students will compete against other CS150 students and CS221 and CS222 students will compete against each other. No distintion is made between individuals and teams when grading programs.

Problems and Solutions:
The contest test consists of four (4) programming problems over the course of four (4) weeks of varying degrees of difficulty. Each team has until ENDING_DATE to submit a solution to the problems via e-mail.
Programs may be written in the following languages: C, C++, Java All programs must run on either Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT or Unix System V Release 4. Programs may be be command line programs or have graphical interfaces unless otherwise specified in the problem. Source Code (and output for selected problems) must be sent in the body of an email to urcsc@mathcs.urich.edu. No binaries will be accepted!
Any non-standard files used by he program must accompany the source code in separate emails. Each e-mail must contain the a subject line with the PROBLEM # Documentation in the source code must contain the team name (optional), team members' names, an email address for the team, operating system, file name, programming language, and compiler used (optional) eg.
//TEAM: TIGERS
//MEMBERS: John DOE, Jane DOE
//EMAIL: john.doe@yahoo.com
//OPERATION SYSTEM: MS Windows NT
//LANGUAGE: Java
//COMPILER: SUN JDK1.2
Any other documentation is optional, but better documentation may lead to easier to read code.
Questions may be addressed to the URCSC via e-mail to urcsc@mathcs.urich.edu - Answers may or may not be given, but a reply will always be sent within 24 hours.
It is not expected that any team complete all eight problems!

When:
The Contest shall run from Monday, November 8, 1999 to Saturday December 4, 1999
Each program shall be posted on the web at: http://www.mathcs.richmond.edu/~urcsc/contest/problems.html


Points/Scoring:
Points will be awarded on a weekly basis.
The point distribution is as follows: The solutions will be scored in the following manner: Programs 1-3 will be assigned Program 4 will be scored on a 4 point scale based on: All grading will be done by members of the URCSC.
Points awarded will be posted by Tuesday, December 7 on the web at http://www.mathcs.richmond.edu/~urcsc/contest/results.html
All decisions on scoring are final.
Ties will be broken based upon time solution was submitted.

Awards:
The winning team will be the team that has accumulated the most points at the conclusion of the contest. In the event of a tie the team who submitted their entry first will win.
Prizes will be awarded the the first place team. The winners will receive a $20 Ukrop's Gift Certificate.
There will be an awards ceremony and pizza party for ALL participants on Tuesday, December 7, 1999.
