Common name: Sweet cherry.

Brief description: A tree to 20 m; the bark has characteristic horizontal lenticels. Leaves are ovate-oblong to obovate, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, long-hairy beneath, margins coarsely and often doubly serrate-toothed. The distal end of the petiole has two large glands.  Flowers are perfect, white, fragrant, 2-6, in axillary clusters. Fruits are a 1-seeded, globose, red, sweet drupe with fleshy exocarp and hard endocarp (stone). 

Campus data: Very rarely cultivated on campus.
