Common name: Boxelder, ash-leaved maple.

Brief description: A medium-sized, dioecious tree with smooth gray bark. Leaves are opposite, pinnately compound, 3-5 leaflets; leaflets are lanceolate to ovate or oblong, coarsely serrate or with a few shallow lobes, pinnately veined. Flowers are unisexual, the staminate in sessile, umbel-like fascicles, drooping on pedicels; the pistillate -- in drooping racemes. Fruits are a double samara with one-seeded winged mericarp. 

Campus data: Abundant in the wild along Westhampton Creek below the lake, infrequent elsewhere.  Not cultivated.
