Culture Assignment: Blog

Description
Computing is a huge field. In this assignment, you are to explore computing as a field and learn something beyond basic programming. Example topics might include:
- Advanced programming concepts
- Algorithms
- Robotics
- Graphics
- Bioinformatics
- Security
- And much much more...
Creating your blog
- Create a blog on Blogger to track your journal. Unfortunately, you cannot use your Richmond email for this. You may need to create a gmail account.
- Name the blog "
CMSC 150 - Spring 2017 - {Your Creative Title Here}
". If you fail to name it correctly, I will ask you to change it. - Email the link of the blog to the instructor. All students' blogs will be listed on this page.
Writing entries
- Name each entry as "
Entry {entry number here} - {Creative Entry Title Here}
". - Provide at minimum the following sections in your entry. Use bold
subheadings to provide clearly demarcated sections.
- Description of topic. Define any jargon and terms here.
- Relation to Computer Science. Clearly explain the topic's relation to Computer Science. For example, if you want to discuss the Large Hadron Collider, predominantly a product of Physics research, you need to discuss how Computing is related to the topic at hand.
- References. List references as the last section of the blog. Use numbers to denote references for easy citations in the entry itself.
- Add a descriptive image somewhere in the blog entry.
- If you are unsure of a topic, references, or anything please ask the instructor.
Comment on another blog
Additionally, you need to comment on at least one other student's blog a week to receive full credit. You must comment on the same entry number as the current week or you will not receive the points relating to commenting. Remember the following:
- Simple comments, e.g., "cool topic!", will not count. Comments should relate their blog topic to another topic, ask a critical question, or lead to further insight.
- Try to get into the assignment, if someone asks a question, try to reply to it! Have fun with this.
Grading
- Each entry is worth 10 points.
- All entries will count towards 10% of your final grade.

Points
- 5 points on content. Breakdown - 2 points for topic choice (actually relating to computing), 2 points for required sections of discussion, 1 point for lacking clarity.
- 2 points for good image.
- 1 point for bibliography.
- 2 points for commenting on another blog.
- Concerning plagiarism. Use proper quoting procedures and citation practices. If you steal someones words and do not cite them properly, I will defer grade assignment and submit a report to the Honor's Council for proper consequences.
