19th Annual Southeastern-Atlantic Regional Conference on Differential Equations

October 22-23, 1999

Time and Venue:

SEARCDE 1999 will be held on the campus of the University of Richmond, beginning at 2 pm on Friday, October 22, and ending in the early evening of Saturday, October 23. The conference will feature invited plenary lectures by three eminent mathematicians and several sessions of contributed 20-minute talks. A reception will be held Friday night, October 22.

Margaret Cheney (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute):
``Electrical Impedance Tomography''

Peter Lax (Courant Institute, New York University):
``A Dispersive Deterministic Analogue of Turbulence''

Glenn Webb (Vanderbilt University):
``A Diffusion Model of Phenotype Evolution in Helicobacter pylori''


Contributed talks:

If you wish to contribute a 20-minute talk, you may submit a title and abstract as part of your registration information (see ``Registration (Two steps):'', below). Please note that the deadline for abstract submission is September 30, 1999.

NOTE: You may choose to pay the fee on-site, when picking up your registration package (cash or check, no credit cards), but PRE-PAYMENT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Pre-payment helps the Organizing Committee in planning the conference.

Financial Assistance:

Contingent upon availability of funds, some financial assistance may be available to offset travel and housing expenses for graduate students and recent Ph.D. recipients (degree received 1997 or later). Women and members of minority and other currently underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. To maximize the number of individuals receiving support, all applicants are encouraged to consider economy travel, including double occupancy in hotel rooms and surface travel where feasible. Priority will be given to eligible applicants presenting a talk at the conference.

To apply for possible financial assistance, qualified applicants should complete the ``Application for Financial Support'' section of their registration form (see ``Registration (Two steps):'', above). Please note that the deadline for application for possible financial assistance is September 17, 1999.

Specific information regarding the scheduling and location of conference events (including on-site registration) will be distributed electronically and posted on this web page. Preregistered participants will also receive campus and area maps and a preliminary program.
